Dublin to Welcome Visitors by Offering a Free Pint with a Local

Welcome to Dublin, City of 1,000 Welcomes

Leave it to Dublin to leverage the power of the pint to help tourism. The City of 1,000 Welcomes program connects Dubliners with out-of-towners in a round of tourism speed dating… and the good news is that even if the “date” is only so-so, both parties get a free pint of beer or cup of tea.

At this very moment, Dubliners are signing up as ambassadors. After vetting the applicants, the program will facilitate one-on-one meetings with first-time tourists at one of three Dublin establishments… Merrion Hotel, Bewley’s Café, and the Porterhouse Pub.

With “meeting the locals” high on the lists of many travelers, this program deserves a shiny gold star… it’s good for visitors, good for sponsoring venues, and great Dublin.

The program launches on Bloomsday 2011 (June 16th), and visitors are invited to sign up for the City of 1,000 Welcomes Newsletter to find out how to participate.
