Exploring the Standing Stone
Some of Ireland’s most interesting and often overlooked sites are it’s most ancient… standing stones, cairns, neolithic tombs.
Lucky for us, Irish Firesider Nancy Pedro sent us a link to www.thestandingstone.ie, a site dedicated to these wonderful places.
Tom Nelligan has put together an extensive overview of various points in Counties Carlow (23 sites), Kildare (35 sites), Laois (37 sites), Limerick (24 sites), Offaly (51 sites), Roscommon (12 sites), Sligo (4 sites) and Tipperary (44 sites).
He include the GPS coordinates (very handy for some of the most remote sites), a Google map, descriptions, history, photos and other important information for visitors.
I suggest you head over and explore www.thestandingstone.ie.

I haven’t heard of these before – I’m looking forward to learning about them. Another odd, interesting thing to love about Ireland.

My husband and I visited this site 8 years ago on our first visit to Ireland. It was a beautiful sunny day filled with inspiration.
Another brilliant site is the Beaghmore Stone Circles. This atmospheric location is found in Co. Tyrone and the stones are freely accessible to all. If you are lucky then you might have the place to yourself as I did.
